Teens at risk of online scams

Amarillo---?Parents are being warned? to keep a closer watch on their teens.

The Better Business Bureau tells NewsChannel 10, scam artists are fooling more people in this digital age, more and more often, that could be your children.

While many think scams?mainly?harm seniors, that's a myth according to Janna Kiehl, executive director of the BBB.

"They?[scam artists]?target anyone who will participate in their fraud." said Kiehl.

Like teens, who are at risk of sending money or information.

"They tend to respond to all other emails. They want to have more friends online and they think that's easy to do. They are responding to emails they should be deleting." said Kiehl.

So she's giving a little advice to parents.

"They should have spam filters on their computers, They should watch what their teens are doing online and they should read what their teenagers are doing." expressed Kiehl.

Tips she hopes will keep not just parents but everyone alert.

"It is more dangerous, from children to elderly adults and everyone in between." said Kiehl

Kiehl also tells? NewsChannel 10, many young college students who are strapped for cash are also falling victim because they are trying to win sweepstakes online.

If you feel like you have been victimized in a scam, contact the BBB.
